964 made into a 73 RSR???
Has anyone taken a 964 and backdated the body to an early version? Ala 73RSR
I am building a 73 RSR track car (just started) but have come across a 964 in need of a little mechanical help, for probably a really good price. I was thinking about taking the accumulated early body parts and installing them on the 964. I would have the looks of an early car with the modern mechanicals of a 964. Ex: ABS, Big brakes, 3.6, G50...... Please tell me your thoughts. Thanks

Excellence had a write up a couple of years ago on that. They took a 964 C2 and backdated the body and lightened it up. Compared it to a real '73 RSR.

Jack posted a thread on exactly that. If you do a search you will fina an article with side by side camparisons of the 964 vs. the real deal RSR along with some cool pics.

The conclusion in Excellence was essentially that no matter what you do to a later car the weight penalty and larger engine result in a car that feels subjectively inferior to the early car. No big surprise I guess. It was a nice job though.

---agreed, but it would be a nice daily driver. all the modern niceties ..good a/c, starts and idles right every time. for a race car though I am not sure I would go theat route.

It is amazing how fast everyone is here.
Well the consensus seems to be (from reading the old posts) that if I want all of the amenities, then the 964 to RSR route is the way to go. But if I want the ultimate driver feel and lightweight, then the early car to RSR (with a 3.6) is the way.
