I never use the crest but.... every P-car salesperson I have ever encountered in a showroom makes a big deal of showing off using the crest as the "proper" way of closing the front trunk lid. UGH.

Buy the Rennline hood struts. Then all you have to do is just drop the hood.

Let's put it this way, a correctly adjusted hood will only require gentle pressure to get it to latch/lock.

If you have to push hard enough to worry about dents and breakage, you may want to check out your latch and hood alignment to make sure they are all in the right spot.

I always take off my badge as it is too tempting a target for some "youth" with a screwdriver to prise off as a trophy, I just put on the small decal and call it good.

....and yes, not matter what, the best place to press is where there is hood frame support....easy to see where if you open the hood up and check out where the bracing is.

Pushing down on the crest is considered a point load, so over time will cause the aluminum hood to develop a low spot as per the video.

I've always grabbed the hood with both hands (fingers on the edge of the trunk) and given it a good hard or rather "firm" push, this avoids point loading and always secures it in the lock catch.

I find it amazing when I see people who have owned the same car for 50 years. That's truly remarkable. Can you tell us more about how you held onto the same car for 50 years? It must be really wild to own something that long.

The crest is 5" above the latch. I would think that pushing down at the lower point would not cause as much damage.

My 72 was a daily driver for 15 years. I had engine problems and no money, so I stored it in a storage unit for about 12 years. I knew if I sold it, I would never be able to buy another It's great driving now with so few people on the road!
