GO back and search on radar scramblers...

ANY passive or low-power radar scrambler will not work. Basically you can count on "if it's legal, it's junk."

In fact Road and Track did a bunch of tests on radar scramblers, some actually INCREASED your signal...

Laser jammers are a different story... The good ones work...

Yeah Cris, you're spot on with the Laser ...also at least here in Cali they are highly illegal as well.

Personally I wouldn't waste my $$$ on a Radar scrambler. The level of effeciency of the latest generations of both the Passport 8500 & V1 are enough for me.

just my .02

I agree...IMHO, the V1 is the greatest self defense weapon since the SA Colt...

Does the little "for off road use only" statement after many P-Cars mean I am doing something illegal?

I just know that lately, my radar detector is not picking up the local cops. They are using cordless handheld units that I suspect are on a different brand than my old Cobra or more than likely Laser.

"radar jammers are illegal by FCC rules."

This is not intended as a flame, but 56 MPH is illegal also! Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia, I figure getting caught with a detector is sort of a driving tax...

Radar detectors, radar jammers and such are illegal here in Finland too. They have these radar detector detectors and I sure would like to know if there is any model that would not give out the frequencies that radar detector detector can see.

If you are caught with such a device, the detector is confiscated and you are fined for having one.

The problem with the laser handheld guns is that when they aim it at you and pull the trigger that is when you get the signal.

Your detector doesn't get the readout unless it is aimed directly at you so your pretty much had anyway if you are speeding

I think its Passport that makes this device called the shifter. Yeah here is the link:

http://www.escortradar.com/zr3.htm

Supposedly this scrambles the laser read out when he shoots you with it as you approach. It signals you that you were shot with it and you can slow down. Once you are within a certain range, I think the system allows a read out to display (and hopefully your at the speed limit by this time).

Talked to some guys who install it and went to a seminar where they demonstrated it. Sounds cool, just pricey.

Wonder what they would do in Finland with mine? The brain is hidden in the glove box, sensor is in the front bumper and lights and speaker are near the tach.

Anti-detector detectors have a feature called "shadow technology" and my Vector 985 made by Beltronics (BEL) comes with the feature. You can search www.radardetectors.com for different types, their ratings and features. Also has a chip that can be updated when new technology is implemented.

I keep my old radar detector (useless) in the glove box for that "just in case" insurance; "O.K. sir, may I please have your radar detector." - Never know? But I wouldn't want them taking my $600 V.

Good Luck and Drive Safe!

They are not illegal here Rob, but that is a great idea. I have some old Cobra detectors (not even sure they work). My K40 is totally concealed with an on off switch so my car would easily stop emitting.

After posting, I went to K40's site and they have a laser defuser too. Theirs is cheaper than the Passport, but I think it can be added to my K40. Might have to do that and get my brother (a cop) to help me test it all out!

I have a device called a LIDATEC which is a lecense plate mounted transmitter that sends a false reading back to the LIDAR and sounds an alarm to give you a moment to adjust your speed. Most cops are trained to aim at the plate because it is the most uniform reflective surface on the front in states like VA where we have front plates. But you have to use your common sense. If you are going 120mph the cop will know it and nothing can save you. However you can fudge extra speed. How much depends on your level of wariness as well as the cop's.
