1997 Porsche 911 Convertible top will not open

I have a 1997 Porsche 911 and the convertible top will not open. When I apply the emergency brake the Parking Brake advisory light illuminates on the dash (normal) and also the master warning light (!) illuminates. I don't remember the master warning light illuminating previously??? Any ideas on where to start trouble shooting? Thanks.

Not sure what the master warning light is referencing. Check your owners manual. 3.2 Carrera, 964 and 993 have a similar system. Common issues are a break in the wiring harness where it bends and unbends as the top opens and closes. Also a couple of micro switches on the arms that attache to the passenger side top transmission can get out of sync. The control unit is under the passenger floor board and there is a factory step by step trouble shoot procedure. You can unlock the front locking motors manually. It is a fairly complicated system, until you figure out how all of the parts work together, as power tops tend to be, just be glad it isn't hydraulic

Check here under Porsche, Cab Top; Problems

Most likely it's an intermittent ECU behind the dash by the light switch.

My apologies. Of course your car is indeed air cooled. I did also intend direct your inquiry to the
Porsche 964 & 993 Technical Forum - Pelican Parts Forums
Good luck.
