'75 3.6 Conversion Tins not level??
So my Rat Rod's tins look angled. The front of the engine (transmission side) has almost a 2 finger gap between the body and the tins. The rear is barely not touching the body, and the sides obviously slope. Yes, my rubber gaskets are out. In looking at a friends stock '75, his are almost even all the way around. In talking to a mechanic, he said the "blade" on the bottom of the block should be parallel to the ground with the car on level ground.
My question is, how do I know if my engine is tilted up from to back, or if my 3.6 Tins are the issue in my '75 body? Who ever did the conversion in my car just put a bunch of washers under the engine brace, and I want to clean that up, get the gaps right, get propper bolts and make my own spacers that are one piece, and replace the rubber gaskets so the top half is sealed from the bottom. The car has a 3.2 engine brace on it, as the A/C compressor and the 964 crank pull have been swapped for Rothsport parts. |
964 or 993?
The 964 f/i stack sits a bit higher, so the 964s tend to sit a bit lower and tilted than 993 unless the package shelve is clearanced |
Bill, 964. It's not that I notice that angle is incorrect from the top of the motor. In fact I have the clearance I need to the package shelf. It's more that I see it at the tins, and the front seems lower than the back. Based on your description I would think the 964 engine would need to be lowered more than a 993 to gain clearance at the package shelf, making the front (transmission side) be higher than the rear. Mine seems to be the opposite.
I know that the bolts and spacers are goofy, that is has a 3.2 engine brace too....and want to get proper bolts and make proper spacers to have the engine correct. Any thoughts on how to accomplish that? |

Thank you so much for the help. Makes sense. And it sounds like you "don't care" if the motor is not level front/rear," just that it fits under the parcel shelf? I believe I cannot raise the transmission, all the adjustment is done at the engine side? |
