Help finding headlight part
So I had a headlight go bad yesterday. Ordered some bulbs, and took out the headlight housing (Bosch H5 on an 88 911). This is what I found - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589734672.jpg
The bulb base has fused to the plastic ring on the back of the Bosch housing. 2 of the 3 locating tabs on the ring are gone - one broken and one melted. I have just installed a headlight relay, so hopefully this is older damage. I have been completely unable to find a part number or a source for the grey plastic ring on the back of the housing. Can this part be sourced on its own, or will I need to buy a new housing? Anyone know of a source or part number? Happy to pay a reasonable price (plus shipping) if someone has one they can part with. Hopefully someone that has done an H4 conversion will have an old one they would like to sell. Thanks so much - Be well |
You have H5 headlights, not H4.
That part is called a Bulb Retainer. Part #928-631-960-00 available from our host for $4. https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/92863196000.htm?pn=928-631-960-00-OEM |
Thanks for the correction. I actually need the other / threaded side that this retainer screws onto. The part that is fitted to the bulb housing itself and holds the bulb.

That is part of the H5 bulb.
Part #9004. |

Thanks - I think we are off the path. The part I need is the grey plastic socket from the headlight housing - not the bulbs. The ring seems to be mounted with some adhesive, and it has three tabs to created a physical bond between the glass housing and the plastic ring.
I think I am stuck trying to repair this, Anyone have any ideas for an adhesive besides JB Weld? Would RTV work better on the glass? Thanks! |
can you post more pictures ?
From the headlight, burnt part, the back of the headlight. I had H5 and had a burnt connector, but do not remember that part in my H5 headlights. The only similar parts I have are parts from a VW Golf headlight. This is an H5 burnt connector http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589824348.jpg These are VW Golfs headlights. Probably your part is similar to the black part in the last picture. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589826183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589826183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589826183.jpg |
Yes - this. I decided to push ahead with some weatherstrip adhesive, and the old plastic part. Sticks to the glass really well, and it feels pretty solid after a few hours. We will see how it all works out - it only needs to support the bulb.

Thanks, I did not remember how the back of the H5s looked like.
