How effective and does anyone use the factory alarm?
 

With all the recent talk of cars being lifted, I like many I’m sure we’re thinking about kill switches, relays, and ways of making our cars mire secure.

My factory alarm works as it should. It kills power to the pump just like pulling the relay via a ground..

So with that said, how effective would the factory alarm be and does anyone use it?

Is it enough security when say out for dinner?

My 88 alarm works great. I use it whenever I'm not driving it. Will it deter a professional car theft ring? Probably not. How about a casual thief? Probably. Good luck!

Absolutely no one ever pays attention to a car alarm making racket. No one. The car being disabled to the non pro might prevent it from being driven off. I have a kill switch I have hidden in the front trunk. I lock my trunk, with that switch set if I am parking it outside at a motel overnight.

Pros will just load it up on a tow truck. That is why I have agreed value insurance.

Only as good as an "honest" thief...

With the AAA we have 50K replacement.

But that does not make it "all" well
after 34 years of original ownership....

To my point, the way I understand the factory alarm is that it is a noise making kill switch. Pulling the relay and the alarm would be the same as it kills the pump right?

I am just installing the factory alarm in my '89 project...and from my point of view, it is layered defense.

Its like house protection, you want the perpetrator to go find something easier to steal.

The little blinky light and PORSCHE Alarm sticker is step 1....amateur might move on.

Then the fact that the thing will make a bunch of noise - and considering I don't park in secluded areas is another deterrrent

Physical blocks like covers over the lock linkage in the door, hardened surround on the key....again, to deter the amateur.

Then the alarm itself.....shuts off fuel and such.

Then my hidden switch on the Motec that I will set when I go.....it won't start no matter what.

So the only option becomes towing on a flatbed....much bigger deal....and that is where the insurance comes in.

No way to stop a determined thief, but then again, the market for a stolen, bright orange vintage 911, uniquely outfitted is probably pretty small.

I am more worried about vandals to tell you the truth...

Dennis I agree. No light and sticker on my 86. I was thinking kill switch but then the alarm does that so..

My flat bed cure is a blocked garage. Sadly though out in the world fair game..

There are those South African electrical bodies and flame throwers.. maybe overkill..

I remember the day years back, my brother called and told me his wife said she heard what sounded like his car driving away that morning. He looked out the window and his parking space was empty.
He used an aftermarket and the factory alarm on his 1984 Turbo. It did not slow them down at all.
