Rennline Dash Backdate Kit installation
Due to Rennline's big sale back in April I decided to bite the bullet and buy the back date kit. Between the back order and Fedex delivery delays I didn't receive it until last week.

Not so pretty. Gauges are at Palo Alto and the dash top is at Classic 9

Great work Harpo.....Keep us posted. |
Well how does it fit and aren’t you done yet. :).

Gauges are back from Palo Alto Speedo. Very happy with the results http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592143582.jpg

I just got my dash back from Classic 9 and I'm very happy.
Unfortunately I forgot to get more black leather for my "A" pillars so I can't install it yet. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1594567918.jpg |
Fog light switch relocation
I want to move my fog light switch to the immediate right of the steering wheel. I'm concerned about an interference with the HVAC control cables.

Looking good.

How did the Rennline kit work out for you Harpo, are you happy with it?
Cheers, Lukas |
The kit is great but I have major ADD and I'm still uncertain on what to do about my fog light switch.

I could not figure out what to do with my fog light switch so for now there will be no fog light switch. Because the radio plate fit in the slot of the backdate trim I thought I had to use this. However it makes it a lot harder to add the leather trim. So this crazy idea popped in my head, why not skip the radio trim and simply transfer the holes to the aluminum trim. Except the radio plate is not centered (please see dimensions). Before I can transfer the holes to the aluminum trim I need to confirm the orientation.
Does anyone know which is correct? Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1618072770.jpg |
Because of the HVAC trim I'm leaning towards putting the 1.92 inch towards the driver side.
|
Anyone know how the radio face plate is mounted?
|
On the '69 to '73 cars the vinyl trim was was glued to that part you have dimensioned out and was mounted to the radio before it was put in the dash. I can't see the whole dash trim. Are you using a long non glove box piece? Originally the dimensioned piece in question went to the edge of the original dash trim where it ended at the glove box. There was a seam of vinyl trim between the radio and the vent control.

Looking great. Hope to see your car in person if this state ever gets back to normal function.

By using the rennline backdate kit the glove box is eliminated
|
I converted my fog light switch into an oil cooler manual override switch. The lighter will become the Classic Retrofit AC switch. Looks totally stock and eliminated the need to alter the dash elsewhere.
