Engine drop & install - Engine over rev - ugh
 

1978 911 SC 3.0 - DIY kinda guy with not a lot of knowledge....

Dropped engine to have trans rebuilt and fix all the oil leaks. Just re-installed and would not start - was beginning to do the 6 ignition checks and when I plugged the CDI back in after checking connections it started!!! Yeah - guess I didn't have it seating and connected properly!

Now to the most recent problem - it starts, rough, maybe a few little backfires then it revvs so high I'm scared the engine will blow so I shut it off. Tach does not work either so I'm going by sound - its like the accelerator pedal is floored. I did check the linkage and throttle and all seems good and correct (although I could be wrong)

Is this a vacuum or air leak? it would have to be massive I'd guess and I'll be honest, I had some lines I wasn't 100% sure on.

Any help diagnosing would be awesome

Throttle valve stop........
 

Check and make sure you got all the springs installed and the throttle valve is resting on the “stop” (throttle valve closed). It will never rev high if you have the valve totally closed. Something is preventing the throttle valve to fully close. So inspect your throttle linkage. Keep us posted.

Well I tore into it this evening and from what I can tell it all looks right to me - compared pics in Bentley on online here on the forum.

Does it look right to you all?

The cruise control cable looks like it’s been adjusted “tighter”. Maybe it’s keeping the throttle from closing all the way.

There is supposed to be a return spring in the first picture attached from Bottom of#2 runner

The return spring on the throttle body is too long. Uses a much shorter spring

Eagledriver you are the winner!!! Cruise control cable was too tight!!!

Thank you all for the help and insight - now to fix all my "new" oil leaks - I swear I had everything tightened to torq spec but it's old - onto tightening...
