Pertronix Ignitor -- What coil to use?
OK... I bought a msd blaster 2 coil and it seems to work great....
But now I have heard it is bad to use with the pertronix ignitor.... is that true? Which coil should I be using... The stock one doesn't work with the electric.... P.S. Is it true if I leave the car on without running it damages the pertronix ignitor? Thanks |

The stock coil does work with the pertronix...I had mine in for a year with no problems.

For some reason it did not work with my stock coil...... Don't know
why..... Do you have a stock cdi box? Does that effect anything... I have a Perma tune and everything seems to work great so far... |

I say had since that motor is out and on it's way to Albuquerque...with the stock cdi and all. One wire from the pertronix to the fuse panel in the rear, the other to the coil...that's it.

I connected both wires to the coil... Maybe that was the difference....

that is probably it. The one wire needs to go to a constant source...of the three fuses in the rear box, I think the middle one was the constant.

I wish I knew this earlier, it would have saved me money on the
coil.... . . . Do you know if there is a problem with leaving the car on but not running with the pertronix? I don't think it would be a problem if it is set up right... |

Pertronix makes two versions, and if I remember correctly, the second version includes a feature that prevents damage form the ignition being left on. So that's a clue.
Secondly, if you mounted the MSD coil in the stock location, (upside down), they recommend you use the high vibe version, as mounting the normal version upside down drains the internal oil away form the bottom of the coil, which they say will result in overheating. All FYI, from my research, not from my actual experience.

Well, Ok, I'm just figuring out a new scanner, so these, well, they suck! But here it is in '93 just a couple of days after I sprayed it.
 and here it is at Lime Rock early spring of 99? (I was in the midst of doing a little work to that rear wheel!) Check out that GREEN 911 going under the bridge into big bend in the background. Bright!
