I have the parts to repair my frame/chassis rail but the inner frame rail reinforcing panel doesn't seem to want to fit without modification.
![]() Pictures in situ gratefully received. |

Is that on the inner frame rail, inner skin. It’s no uncommon to have to shape these panels to fit perfectly.

Rail Repair
Thanks, the new piece seem quite a bit bigger than where it needs too go, see here, i guess i'm surprised at the way it's formed and how it doesn't reflect the area to replace.
Mind you this is a 1965 912 body shell. Last edited by Julian8key; 06-17-2020 at 06:37 AM.. Reason: add photos |

I’m sure you have everything figured out but the large new repair panel you have is the outer portion of the frame rail and should have the reinforcement panel on the inside of the outer frame rail panel . They sometimes come without. It should look as pictured.
The smaller panel you have is the inner skin of the inner frame rail. You can see the indent where it meets the rear seat panel Outer portion of frame rail with reinforcement.

frame rail
that's helpful
the 90 degree cut out is at the top then facing forward the old outer part have the reinforcing but not the new, making one shouldn't be too challenging. Your picture is most helpful. |
