Would this look cool or dumb ?
I'm replacing the Radio antenna on my 73 Targa and looking at all kinds of options. While looking around, I found this one. It's a good combination of price and ease of wiring. (My prior powered antenna was jury rigged, so I've got some work to do if I go back to a powered antenna). The swept back angle would hopefully follow the angle of the windshield and a black antenna might go well with the dark grey car.
Would it look cool or dumb ? I know it's subjective. Just curious what others think. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592068154.jpg |
Go with stock.
|
Only if you put it in centre rear of targa hoop.
|
I see the attraction
I am toying with the idea to fit a 'stubby' or 'rubber ducky' on my '74 Targa in place of the original antenna. I always forget to pull it out when taking the car cover off, and having it parked etc, and don't really want to fit an electric antenna.
Fitting an antenna on the Targa hoop - the thought of wiring it gives me gray hair :) |
Dumb IMHO.

+1 on Dumb. Better suited to an Accord or other Boy Racer.

Come on people. Tell us how you really feel.

Do you get the feeling the most responders are purists and can't stand anything the isn't stock. To bad. Go to a wrecking yard and find one, then take it home and play with it. If you like the looks then buy one.

A lot of the "purists" here have heavily modified cars.
That antenna doesn't belong on an older Porsche. Maybe on the roof of an "old" Cayenne?" |
how bout an antenna delete and use an internal antenna you cant see? I have heard that they can be made to work with signal boosters to be better than stock.

Who listens to the radio anymore?? Radio sucks, 1 bad song then 20 minutes of lame advertising.
Plus this would be way cooler, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592158529.jpg |
I don't know why, but the previous owner of my car had the manual antenna on the driver's side removed and the hole welded closed. Then installed a powered antenna on the passenger side. The power antenna is missing mounting parts and the installation wasn't that great, relying on silicone to bridge the gaps created by the missing mounting pieces. The wiring was no prize either, so re-placing the power antenna also means re-wiring and fishing the wires through some hard to get to places.
The angled stubby antenna was looking like an easy way out. It's wires would go to places where I already had wires and it was cheap. But, with such an overwhelming vote of "dumb" I must realize what I already knew. Do it right, or don't do it. I shall re-commence my shopping for a power antenna. Thanks for the guidance. |
