Sun visors fix? ‘85 911 refurbishing

Has anyone refurbished sun visors.
I have a pair that have blow up like balloons and wonder if they can be opened and refurbished and sealed.

I know someone who used an exacto knife to cut a portion of the heat seal. Replaced the old foam, and resealed using super glue. Rob

There are a few threads on restoring visors. You might also consider Vinyl Specialties, they did a nice job on mine for a reasonable amount.

For about $150 you can buy a set of aftermarket if they're for a coupe. If it's a targa or cab it gets more expensive.. $350 It costs about as much to recover an original set as it does to just put in the aftermarket set and the aftermarket set looks just fine. You probably couldn't tell the difference between a new OE and the aftermarket if you had them side by side.

Tried to post a link to the set I bought but the site blocked the name in the link. Search for P778 Sun Visor Set Coupe Black/Black Set 1969-1989 You'll find them for $129

maybe it's just, I bought a variety of replacement sun visors, recommended from our host and others, and they all disappoint me, big problem is they are too short, so they don't reach the clip near the rear view mirror without the hinge being barely inserted into the visor.

I'm going to slice open a puffy one and slide in a piece of rigid foam

That's really strange! Once I figured out my hinge orientation on my cab was wrong, my aftermarket visors fit just fine. When I had the wrong set of flat visors, I put the aftermarket face to face with the original and they were the same shape only one wasn't puffy. Are you sure you had the right hinges?

the coupe visors only have one hinge, and then a clip near the rear view mirror...some visors come with the hinge pre-installed....and I've tried swapping the original hinge in its place....overall, a pretty crappy experience.
