Jack, Tyson,
Your spectacular result is not only a ringing endorsement of the talents of everyone involved in the creation of what I think is the ultimate air-cooled 911, but, as Jack emphasized a couple of times in his (well-written) write-up, the result is also a ringing endorsement of Porsche's engineering prowess. John Gregory always used to say these cars were "magic". He was right. I wonder if Southwell will return next year in his own TRE-prepared 911. In the words of Murray Walker, that could be very interesting, indeed. Congratulations, guys! Jack, Way to effin go. Toe to toe with a pro driver and coming out just fine. Your driving must be getting pretty darn good. It was not all that long ago BBI was still in pre BB condition resting in Illinois. How things have changed! TRE and Tyson must be feeling very good about their contributions as well. Thanks for letting us all enjoy your exploits.

Good job, Jack. Great to see you guys doing as well as you are. You deserved the first place finish in my book!
I'll fly out after my next DE and we'll have a beer.

Well done. All that, in an air conditioned car. Sounds like it was a BLAST!

just freaking amazing...Jack can drive, Tyson can drive, Porsches don't break (most of the time) and Jack can write a story better than most! I waited a long time to read this post and it was very much worth it, now the wait for OTC3 has began.

And it's great AC. We added an SC side duct on the driver's side, with extra airflow going to it. It gets too cold, now. I have to crank back the temp control.
The NSX was so completely gutted (down to under 2700 pounds) that the driver couldn't roll up the windows on the highways without being overwhelmed by engine heat. A good piece of news came in today. Every year, the Open Track Challenge picks three participants randomly for a free entry for the following year. Darned if Tyson and I didn't win -- so we'll be back (with a little more money for tires) in '04. ![]()

Fantastic write up and congratulations on your success. If you told me before hand that BB2 and a pro-driven NSX would be so close in performance I would not have believed it but the results don't lie so well done to you guys.
BTW, could you do a spec comparison between BB2 and the NSX e.g hp, engine capacity, weight, tyres, tyre sizes. I'm trying to figure out where BB2's advantage came from since you are still running an unrebuilt 964 3.6 that has 250ish stock hp. |

Great story and congratulations on a great job. It's amazing what a 30 year old car in the right hands can do.
Can't wait to hear about BB2 coming track exploits. Any video of the off-track excursion?

Man, look at how flat that car is thru the turn. Is that what they call a 4-wheel drift
Absolutely beautiful.

On the one Tom liked, it's called throwing yourself way too hot into the corner, and then having to try and save things before your rear end goes sailing into the grass.
My erratic driving aside, though, if anyone wants a higher resolution version of any of the pictures, just shoot me an email at jackolsen@attbi.com
