Help...front pad installation question

I feel kinda lame asking for help on this but I'm having trouble installing the retaining pins for my front pads. I'm finishing up a complete brake system refresh. I have rebuilt PMB calipers and fresh OE pads and retaining hardware. It seems as if the roll pin or whatever you call it on the retaining pins is a hair too wide for the caliper holes. I've hit them pretty hard and they aren't starting in the hole. Any tips or am I doing something wrong? Thanks guys.

Squeeze the roll with visegrips to make it a bit smaller. Works sometimes.

Thanks John. Vice grips worked like a charm.
Now I’m on to the last step...MC replacement.
