I hope there's a picture up there. Otherwise, between all my stupid questions and now my messing up the system, I might get banned.

On any account, it's a 1984 Carrera Coupe, Platinum color, 175k miles. I'm the 3rd owner. It's turning out to be a lot of fun (probably more so as soon as I can figure out how to drive the crazy thing properly)

And, on the subject of stupid questions: I just replaced my engine hood shocks (both of them) and I find I still have to dislocate my shoulder so that I can pull on the release and lift the hood a bit at the same time. I see there's a couple bolts holding the male part of the hood catch mechanism (attached to engine lid) and it looks like this part can be moved slightly. Is this where to start or is there something else I should do first?

Good - it worked this time.

Must be the weight of the spoiler. When I replaced my single hood shock (bought from pelican) when the original failed, the lid would raise on it's own when I pulled the release...

Nice car. Good thing you got a Carrera. :) That whole Carrera vs. SC thing has been settled.

Glad you got the Turbo tail. I like Carreras better with them. They *are* heavy, though. Even with dual shocks, mine is hard too lift as well, and won't stay up on its own. As far as your release goes, try a little WD-40 to start - it's not the best lubricant, but it will at least tell you if lube is the answer. If it is, follow up with some spray lube into the cable pull at the handle end and also at the latch. The latch is also adjustable, but I'd make for darn sure that you have it set up so that when it's latched, it's going nowhere.

Have fun with that thing! Get it out on a track at a DE somewhere.

First try the black bumpers (about the size of your thumb) in the corners of the engine lid istelf, they are threaded.

Unscrew them so they are almost all the way out, and try again.

The spring/rod thing on the lid can be adjusted as well, by loosening the lock nut, and screwing it in and out.

I think it is trial and error on getting it properly set up. At least it seemed that way when I swapped engine lids on my car.

Looks very nice, I got some heavy duty hood shocks that are guaranteed never to fail, and they hold it up with the turbo tail. I like that color too.

Thanks for the info. To clairify, the lid stays up great, it just won't release without a little help. I'll try the wd40 and play with the settings.

Yep - wd40 and playing with the little rubber things worked it out.

The female-side of the latch mech. needs to be centered. Note the "half-moon" section that comes into view in the circle? That needs to be as far out as possible in resting position. Adjust as needed. Grease the area.

Use the black rubbers to get your perfect hood lip-to body panel level, then play with the male end of the latch mech. by unscrewing or screwing in as needed.

When the tail is installed on a formerly non-tail car the spring on the latch post is suppose to be upgraded to a slightly stiffer spring to lift the extra weight of the tail and facilitate the unlatching of the lid. IMHO, this rarely happened.
