Said goodbye yesterday...

Its done. My car should be in Massachusetts by now... the new owner (Gib T.) choose to fly down and drive back.

What a feeling- it is not the 1st 911 I've owned and sold, but it was a car I was quite involved with. Nothing like watching your baby drive away. Yesterday I was in a funk all day... did I do the right thing? Have I just made a horrible mistake? Sellers remorse.

On the other hand I realize that there are many many wonderful cars out there- BB1 comes to mind as a car I would love to own. a 930... who knows? This also gives me a chance to really jump into racing & I did need a better truck. There will always be great cars out there.

I told Gib about Pelican & hope that he gets as much enjoyment from this BBS as I did (and will continue to do)- I know that he was thrilled with the car and will take care of it as all of her previous owners have.

Here are the photos I took as Gib drove away. The race trailer and dually are in the background...

Did you do the right thing or not? Dunno. But the thing is done and can't be undone. Look forward to the next Porsche, and keep us posted as to what it is (my vote is a 930, go figure).

I hope that day never comes for me, but I do understand how it goes. At least you sold it for more speed.

I've always liked your silver Cabrio. Great looking car. I hope the buyer will enjoy it.

That last picture was depressing.

I hope you get your 930 soon so you can post a picture of you driving the reverse direction back to your drive way.

Wow... I respect your pain.. even though I was a young buck I still remember when I sold my 914 to aid in the purchase of our first home..
My wife cried she really wanted to keep that car, it was my 914 that I first took her out in..and who would have known we would be getting married 6 years later. By the way did you get your asking reserve price?

did you cry later???

i SOBBED like a baby when the new owner drove off in my beloved CRX...

before you laugh, I'd won several local SCCA autocross seasons with it, including a rookie of the year, DS, and CSP trophy. Lots of happy memories there.

Sarah's right, that last photo was touching.

I feel for you Sean, but you'll feel better next time you go under the bridge and down the hill at Road Atlanta in the formula continental! I think I may be in similar position soon, my Miata is for sale. Like atlporsche says, don't laugh. Lots of autocross wins and championships as well as kick ace mountain rides in the car. Thought I'd never sell it.

So, you want Steve and me to look for a 930 for you in Hershey??

Glad you got top $ for your cab. My Boxster will be gone someday, but my 87 cab, well I hope to keep it a long time. The Boxster is a heck of a car, but long term maintenance issues are a concern. Give me a good old 911 anytime. My biggest concern about selling my 87 is this.....It took so long to find it. Even my mechanic marvels at what shape it is in. If I were to sell it, and then someday decide to buy another like it, would it be possible? If so, how long would that take?

I like the looks of a turbo, but don't need the power or added complexity.

I'm sorry. Searching for a good used 911 is not as much fun as some would leave you believe. I've got one, and I'm keeping it.

Sorry to see it go. You definitely need to get another P-car before the next Hershey Trip. Havn't been over to the Auto Auction in a few months. Hope you still have the feeler gauge for me. I still need to get it.

I agreed with wdarner, when I sold my first 911 I couldn't wait to fill the empty garage with another Porsche.

Sure I had my two Lotus to keep me busy tinkering with cars, but the wife never really like driving in them. No a/c, it was too low and people was always staring at us.

It took me over six months to locate a decent 911. A 1982 911SC Targa with just 52,000 miles on the clock. The owner was the second owner of the Porsche and had own it for the past 15 years.

He brought it with 24,000 miles on the clock. He would had kept the car his entire life but he just brought a new Mercedes CLK convertible, and it just snow in the Midwest and his wife was complaining that she had to clean the snow off her car while all his toys sat in their 4 car garage. Too bad for him, lucky for me. Nagging wives can be a blessing in disguise as long as they're not your.

I don't think I'll ever sell my Lotuses or the Porsche, that is not unless I get a great deal on a 993.

I did own a Lotus type 61 formula ford that I sold and wish I still had.

I am a previous Lotus owner also. A '74 Twin Cam Europa. Even my Boxster does not come close. What a machine! It broke, I fixed it.. Can't do that anymore unless you have a good old PORSCHE or Lotus. Webers or Strombergs required a tool, today's cars require a dealer's expertise = not good.

Sean...seems to me you just traded hours of pleasurable driving for less hours of EXCITING driving. Good luck... Paul

Thanks for the support everyone. You can bet I'll be back...
The plan is to race the FC for a couple years and when I can bear the load ($$) of racing no more (I am married) then I'll have a kicka$$ dually, a 28' equiped race trailer and a FC to sell. That ought to buy a heck of a nice 930... 72 S (with the 3.6, of course)... heck, even a Lotus might be fun for awhile. Life is short & there are a bunch of fantastic cars out there- true, I just sold one of them but doors have now been opened!
I will keep everyone posted with race photos and recaps & there are always auction cars that might need to be blown out up in the N Georgia mountains!
Steve, I am still holding on to the feeler guage for you.
