Strange Noise
Hi Folks,
I'm getting a strange noise on my SC and looking for ideas on where to look. Here's the basics: -The noise is a metallic wobbling coming from front of car -Shows up randomly, but mostly after having driven for 10 minutes or so -It's not speed sensitive (i.e. frequency doesn't change with speed) -Goes away if I step on the break or turn the wheel to the left or right (only shows up when going straight) -I looked in wheel wells and under car and nothing obviously out of wack -Noise doesn't affect driving dynamics Car is basically stock aside from turbo tie rods that have been on the car for a while. Any idea of things to check are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! |
I'm guessing brakes or wheel bearing.
Jack the car up after it is warmed and see if the front wheel has play and that the wheel turns freely. Is the wheel and brake hot, even though you haven't made any hard stops? |
Has a stone got flicked up and stuck between the brake rotor and that metal guard that covers it on the inside.

If you have a non contact pistol type thermometer you can check rotor and brake temperature after a drive and see if left and right are close in temp. If it’s more than 100 degrees different you have a side to start on.

Thanks all! Will look into these are report back.
