73 Targa Band
Hey all Longhood guys-
I've got a 73 Targa that has been "updated" to an 80s look. I am taking it back to original. Prior owner, among other things, painted the Targa band black. I am trying to remove it to strip it. I've gotten the inner fender bolts off (2) and the small screws along the band in the channel along the front. Band won't budge. Anyone done this before? What am I missing? (Wondering if po glued it on!) Last edited by jls356guy; 07-18-2020 at 02:49 PM.. Reason: Mispell |

I think you got all the fasteners that I can remember. There are many small screws in that front channel, but sounds like you found them.
My advice is in regards to stripping the paint. Try to get some good Aircraft Stripper with methylene chloride, the nasty stuff. When I stripped mine with the above, the paint almost fell off. This is important because you don't want to scrub/scratch the stainless steel much at all. I'd you do scratch the stainless, not the end of the world, get some 3m scotch pads, I used purple, and you can re-grain the stainless. Hope that helps some. |
