Please educate me on the green wire

So I'm driving my 77 powered by an 82 SC US engine. It has an intake from a euro 3.0 so that means no lambda to make this more simple. Also, CDI was redone by Bob almost 2 years ago. He heat tested it and I've never heard any issues from any of Bob's other customers regarding a CDI refurbish.

The issue:
On my way home today the car cut out completely. I coasted to a stop and started it back up. Everything ran fine to my house 20 mins down the road going 85 mph. The last time the car cut out was a 1.5 hr trip back from Tony's last year. On the way up temps around 80F no issues. On the way back 90+. Engine temps around 220. Today 90F engine temps 210. I have driven several miles this year with no issues.

TL;DR - the car has cut out when hot out and driving for long periods.

I see other users with an issue similar where the car just cuts out while driving at speed. Since the car cuts out completely I don't think its fuel related. It seems like the engine just grounded out and died, as though the coil just died. So I guess that is something to check, right? The coil? I have 2 spares I could throw in.

Back to the title of this post. I hear stories about cutting out and the green wire. What is the correct green wire to buy (as in who makes the best one) and why is it so important? Also, is there any way to get rid of this wire from the equation? I'm all about removing things from the car that seem like they could be for emissions, etc.

Thanks brain trust.

Not sure what the green door is so I will go with the coax shielded one. I dont believe my green wire is shielded to my distro. Just a green wire coming out the back of it.

The induction coil in the distributor can fail also. You can check resistance values.
