Centre console

Hi,

Just wondering if a centre console was a standard fitment in 1975 models. Car is a European (ex Switzerland) 911s in relatively original unmodified condition. Any pictures I've seen of 75/76 models don't seem to have a console. I have removed the one in my car as I think interior looks better without it and more 'retro'. The console I removed hasn't got any part numbers on it, leading me to believe it's possibly aftermarket.

Andrew

Andrew,

The 75-77 911’s that I have seen here in the US do not have a center console.

According to Mark Haab’s 911 Authenticity Guide, the center console first appeared on the 1976 Turbo 911. It became standard on 911’s with air con in 1977, and finally appeared on all 911’s in 1980.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for info. My console had two switch holes but no switches so most likely a later
addition to car. As I said I removed it for a cleaner look and my CocoMats arrived today
so have a fitted them and interior looks much better.

Like you, I prefer the clean look without the console. Don’t have air con in my 911, so no need for the switches anyway.

Enjoy your new Coco mats. You should post a picture once you have them in your car.

Cheers.

Other Way !

After 30 years of NOT having a place to put my wallet, and 15 years of NOT having a USB outlet.... I went the complete opposite direction and ADDED a console on my 74 911.

Couldn't be happier I did and wish I had done this years ago when I bought the console... 15 years ago.

Now... I have a cubby to drop my wallet into and I have 2 USB for my phone and Mrs Pre-H20's phone whille maintaining a semi stock look by using the AC knobs as USB holders......

If I want to go back to stock..... 3 screws and 2 wires come apart in 10 minutes.

Sorry, I’m did not mean to mislead with my previous post, but I do have the console in my 84 911. I just prefer the look without the console. Can’t disagree about the convenience of the cubby to stash stuff. I usually put my water bottle in the cubby.
