Metal VIN Tag Location, 1976-1979
I am trying to determine what years, if any, Porsche riveted a metal VIN tag to the right-side (passenger) fender panel in the front trunk area?
For the pre-1974 cars, the tag was riveted onto the front cross-member next to the hood latch. If I am not mistaken, I thought that for a period of time, this metal VIN tag was moved to the right inside fender panel. I'm seeing a lot of early impact bumper cars without the tag, so maybe my memory is inaccurate and the only VIN tag was the decal placed on the driver's door jamb. I am specifically looking for information on 930 Turbos, but interested to hear about all 911s during this time. Any help with this appreciated. |

I’ve been under the impression that location Is euro spec, not US
euro spec doesn’t have a windshield pop riveted VIN Bruce |

I can say that every 74-77 US or Euro model both have them there

This has been discussed many times. You'll find quite a few threads such as this one:
Does anyone have a '76 or '77 911/911S with a VIN plate?

Thanks. That was a good reference. Seems like Porsche made a provision for the VIN tag on the production line, but mostly transitioned the actual tag out of US cars by 76-77, with perhaps an odd one here and there.
