86 911 Cab Mystery Car
Hello All! So the wife and I have found ourselves the dubious owners of the above car. I have owned the same model and year 28 years ago. I loved it, but the "new" one is a mystery. Birthing records show a "limited amount of data, but it is also a Sonderwunsch vehicle. Special Wish. Highly customized at the time of order/build. I suspect it was a Special thru the auspices of PCNA based in Reno. They were known to order a select number of cars optioned to the max to highlight all that was offered. List as below, some still unidentified.
Numbers Matching 341 Central locking system 454 Automatic speed control 491 Turbo-look 020 Speedo w/2 scales mph/kph 241 915 Shorter Shift Lever Sonderwunsch* Vehicle with: L999 Paint to Sample 33P Iris Blau Metallic 935 Style rear air intake grates 559 Air Conditioner Power Mirrors Power Antenna 286 Windshield Washer(high pressure?) Remote Master Locking Center Console Stereo Fader Control 437 Power Driver Seat 6 way? 382 Manual Passenger seat Leather Upholstery Power windows 288 Headlamp washers Alarm System?? We have stripped the interior to expose the base condition of the car. It is unbelievably pristine, except for all the wires, some cut, some properly terminated, some just confusing. I will ask all of you aficionados and experienced owners for help as rthe journey continues. I have a "mystery switch #1" located on each door very close to the window controls, round in nature, and non functional as far as I can tell. There is a toggle switch near the ignition that controls the passenger mirror. Another on face of dash I am told is headlamp washer switch. Another under the dash roll that controls ?? A type of temblor alarm box mounted directly under the door post that must be alarm related also?? I don't have a clue, as of yet. Car has aftermarket stereo, missing equalizer, wiring harness coming out of transmission access plate for coupler and shaft adjustment, and so much more. Car has 62K miles, a stick shift lever that spins freely in 360 degrees, that is a simple fix. JB Weld I'm told. Limited service documentation, but everything appears clean and tight. No fluid leaks. New carpet kit ordered from Lakewell, floorboards (birch) to replace delaminated originals, a top boot cover for convertible top. Any and all suggestions and assistance appreciated! Have a great Fourth and God Bless America! ![]() ![]() |

The “switches “ near the window controls look like they could be mounts for tweeters - that’s a typical location for those. The rocker switch looks factory - maybe mirror control selector. The other box pictured looks stereo related ( crossover) also. My guess would be that you have a pretty clean car with a big after-market stereo& alarm install that was hastily removed.

Hi tschall- Welcome aboard and beautiful car! The switch above your climate control is the high-intensity washer switch. See owners manual image below...
This switch controls the pump attached to the smaller fluid tank in the frunk (upper drivers side with the red cap). Again, beautiful vehicle and that's quite an impressive options list! (and yes, 286 is the high-intensity washer option code) Hope this data helps! ![]() Cooking on a Porsche 911- The compound butter made the difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvXBR50rH9E

Wow! Such great suggestions/possible answers. Thanks all. OK the switch near the window controls may be a tweeter, simply because the door speakers are Rochford Fosgate and in great shape. BUT the mount is identical on both doors, and looks factory. I know the speakers and equalize(removed) were not. The switch is probably the high pressure washers switch, especially with the backup pix! Great info. The mirror switch is just above and left of the ignition, with the attenuator on door sill for controlling each side dependent on switch position. I'll attach a few other "mystery" items later today or tomorrow. nobody have any clues as to where the switch is for the power antenna to raise/lower. My guess it was on the Blaupunkt (factory) as a plug in auto up & down dependent on power to radio being on or off? Any guesses? Happy Birthday America! I hope everyone enjoys something positive and special about our weekend!

PCNog and Ianc2 you were correct on Rockford Fosgate equip. Pix below. With those three items now removed/identified, it's onto I believe, more equalizer stereo related wiring harness(s). See image. The harness comes from tunnel access plate and was a rats nest of wires that served no purpose. Any guesses as to Rockford accessories again? or ?? Thanks! Only about thirty more to go and back to standard.
