Lock Post vinyl replacment?

Okay Guys,

How in the heck do you replace the vinyl cover that goes on the lock post. There's a metal shell under it that's fastened to the post somehow but I can't seem to figure out how's it hooked on there. I'm hesitant of yanking on it or prying it so I'm looking for someone smarter than me that's done this before. I thought it would be good to ask before I strip the car down and do something wrong.

Are you trying to remove the entire vinyl top trim piece, or just the lock post knob ?

Vinyl trim piece:
There should only be two screws holding it in place. One is at the rear, deeply countersunk (look for a small hole or plastic hole plug). The other is on the front side of the rail, where it mates with the dash (only visible with door open). Be careful removing it, as you will need to disconnect the mirror switch plug before pulling it up/off.

Lock post knob:
It is threaded, just unscrew it.

Are you refering to the lock panel(latch panel) on the tub? The piece that the door latch is mounted to? If so, the wrap around vinyl is glued on. peel very carefully.

Guys,

I guess I need some more explanation as I don't do too good a job the first time. The door jam post that the lock striker plate is attached to is call the lock post. Just inside the door jam is a vinyl section that runs vertically up from the sill plate up to where the roof attaches to the body. The back edge covers the rear side panel and the front or outside edge butts up to the door. It's the piece that Jamie is referring to that has vinyl glued to it. Behind the vinyl is a layer of backing foam and then a metal plate that the vinyl is glued to. I'm try to find out how to remove the metal back plate so I can install the new vinyl correctly. There is a screw at the top of it but that doesn't seem to do too much in the way of getting it loose. Anybody ever removed this piece?

Dan
