Strut Brace Replacement

I have a weltmister old school strut brace on my car it was on when I got the car.
i was told last week by a friend that I needed to replace it or drill it out so the strut can rotate.
I've been reading on the forum about how to mod the weltmister but not sure what way to go also I think I would need to install monoballs as I do not have the plates for the top of the strut.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Paul

Why would you want it to be able to rotate?

If the ends can't rotate they will transfer a certain amount of bending moment. That will be a slightly stiffer design than one with ends that can rotate.

I still have mine on my 78 as designed. Never drilled it out because it went against the concept and design. I check it now and again for signs of cracking. I put it thru some agressive driving too.

Interesting discussion. I opened up the center of my weltmeister connection as shown.

Myth vs. reality: Strut mounts, camber braces, monoballs, rubber bushings, etc

I misunderstood the description of the strut brace. I thought it was the joint between the bar and the bracket that was to be retrofitted with rod ends. Locking the top shock rubber mount seems less than optimal.
