964 case hardware questions

I am rebuilding my 3.6 and want to replace the case perimeter studs but I’m having trouble finding the correct size. The PET appears to list a m8 1.25 32mm.... but the studs in my case are more like 48mm. 89 964, if it make a difference. Also, has anyone found a suitable replacement for the perimeter locking nuts?

Thanks

Thoughts

Is it just the same stud as the exhaust manifold? That’s the only one I see in the correct size.

In my mind, 32 seems too short to do the job.
Last couple 3.6 and late 3.2 that I did I used nyloc Nuts because the prevailing torque nuts I purchased seemed to destroy the threads of the studs

Does it get hot enough to warrant any special nyloc? .....if there is such a thing. The turbo exhaust studs are the right length at 46mm. The studs in my case now also have the slightly offset unthreaded area just like the exhaust studs. It’s strange that the PET doesn’t have it correct, that’s a first for me. Do you use steel washers under the nylocs?

Thanks Bruce!

Are you the same page as this ?

Yes, steel washers and spring waves washers under regular nuts inside motor.
Just nyloc because they were first used in the 70s. Nyloc only melted on the exhaust system from too much heat.

Thank you! No if I can just figure these damn studs out. If the turbo exhaust studs are good enough for that use, then as case studs they should be fine..... is my thinking.

Did you see number 8 on the parts list ?
That appears to be what you’re asking for ?

Right and left flanges thickness then add 10 mm for the nut and washer
That would give you the length you need.
Question, why would you remove the studs, what did you do with them?

Long story short(er), I bought a wrecked 964 with 76k on it. But it sat for 20 years so the motor had to come apart regardless. After a trip to my machine guy, found everything was near flawless but has some corrosion on the case nuts and studs. Figured I’d replace them while it’s apart. At some point it was apart already, likely from the dealer, because it had the updated head gaskets and the ports were stamped with the numbers. Only real issues are the perfect Pistons and cylinders had blisters from the rings sitting against them forever. And the crank had a little corrosion at the number 8 seal that is being fixed right now. Crank was dead on though... even the old bearings looked great.... shame they have to go anyways. Sat full of oil for 20 years and had no leaks... hope to continue that. Lol

I did but I think those are the studs around the flywheel end of the crane and have more unthreaded surface in the middle..... not sure that it would matter though

I’d love to be more help , but I know just enough to know I know nothing :D
Engines and transmissions are a big box of mystery to me .
I know enough not to trust pet drawings though

If you have the block apart can’t you compare the studs you have to the number 8 studs ?

Might have to do the old ‘order everything and return the incorrectly’ routine

There should Ben a bunch of 3.6 cases across the country with holes in the side from a rod going wild and no longer having any value.
I believe all the cases for years should be interchangable on flanges
