HP junkies: motor mounts and boots.. or how to handle torque
I recently heard a new reason why not to get solid mounts. Besides the usual story about how they will drive you nuts if it is a street car, apparently they are just not safe on high torque cars. The argument was something about how the torque has to go somewhere and it's better to go into the mounts instead of breaking something somewhere else. Although I haven't heard of this before, it seems to make sense. Has anyone else heard this? Are there any mods possible that are in the spirit of the RSR rear shock strengthening that could be used to help with this problem? I'll be happy with sport (not solid) mounts. But it seems there should be a solution for dedicated track cars with crazy turbo motors tied solidly into the chassis.
Also, I've heard that 500-600+ pound feet of torque in these turbo motors can shred the stock boots, it happened to my engine builder. Unfortunately the two companies I was going to contact about this are unreachable by the phone numbers that I have for them (and appear in Bruce Anderson's book). Does anyone have newer numbers for CVexpress or Superboot(s)? What other companies do this sort of work? Thanks
