What are you using for an iPhone holder
Hi all, I was trying to use google maps on my iPhone the other day, and found I needed one more hand To manage, steering wheel, gear shift, phone.
I don’t see an obvious place to just set my phone down, and wondered what others are doing to manage. I’m looking at the top of my center console, where the now unused A/C knobs are and wondering if that area might be an option, I don’t want to do any irreversible changes. What has everyone done? |
I use the Rennline holder that attaches around the clock. No damage, easily removable, and I have found it holds the phone securely. Uses a magnet that rotates and swivels, and a thin metal piece that sticks to the back of your phone.
|
I have the same Rennline mount and I'm pretty happy with it. Just bought a second one for another car.
|
Same here. Works great, though occasionally I slap it with my hand after shifting.

Perfect! I assumed there would be something out there!
Thanks!! |
If you don’t need wirekess charging Like on the latest iPhones , a mag mount will Work .
These go on the back of your phone and simply fix magnetically to where ever you put the other half ( vent grill etc) But the part on the back of the phone stops Wi-Fi charge workin correctly . If you have a shelf (like the back storage cubby in the rear of a 964 , or console cubby in the front of a 3.2 center console etc.) you can implant a wireless charging pad so it charges as your phone is stored . If not , you’ll need to use a suitable phone mount that has the facility to have a charging pad fitted . Then you’ll be totally wireless and use voice control to operate maps etc . As an aside , I normally use Siri and simply put the phone oN the seat between my legs And have it upside down so the speakers point away from me. But when I got the iPhone X it doesn’t spin the screen so I cannot hear the directions as they’re pointing to my balls rather than my ears . I was thinking of making a mount on the sun visor , but I never did |
Got this idea from a fellow Pelican so credit where credit is due. Piece of 1 1/4" stock bent at a right angle, $12 magnetic phone mount from Amazon and some rattle can black paint. Slides into opening next to air vent. Keeps the phone almost at eye level so you don't have to take your eyes off the road for any length of time. Works so well I made one for my Garmin GPS.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595782027.JPG

Slick solution SCforme.
I’ve got the Rennline also and have been happy with it. |
I've used the Rennline mount for a couple years. Works great. The only issue is mine: I have knocked it off accidentally a few times. Phone slides all over the floor usually stopping under the seat furthest distance from grabbing it easily.

Now that is creative! and it doesn't slide out? what keeps it stable? |
I put mine in the ashtray sideways with the screen pointing out. It fits perfectly and us easy to access and see.

Girlfriends....

JonT -- it stays in place remarkably well with or without the phone attached. Slides out sometimes if you don't peel the phone off the magnetic pad just right but pops back into place easily.
|
I use the rennline clock mount but changed from magnetic holder to a plastic sleeve holder. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max with a rubber sleeve. The magnet isn’t strong enough to hold the larger phone when hitting a bump or making a hard turn. The sleeve holder is quite the eye sore without the phone in it. I wish some one would make an ashtray pop out holder with a charging cable built in.

It would not be hard to create a moulded plastic carrier (4 parallel U sections, 2 either side of a flat plate could mean an easier fit. Push the carrier into the ash tray opening, held in place by the two channels and then slide the phone between the two front channels. No screws, no damage and it can be plugged in to charge. |
Yes the ashtray idea is a perfect 3D printing project.
I considered it fairly heavily before making my magnetic version |
I just place mine in the cup holder. Oh! Wait!!
