1972 clutch popped

Pushed in on the clutch to hear a pop, then pedal when to the floor. Appears the cable is still attached at both ends and the pedal does move the arm at the back of the car, but just a little at the bottom of the travel. Anyone have any ideas what to look for?

Thanks
Chris

hi..it appears..did you actually look at the pedal cluster connections? If yes it is most likely your throw out bearing gave up or got separated from the pressure plate .Take picture from the bottom of the transmission where the clutch arm is and let us see it .Same goes picture of the pedal cluster...

Is the 72 the same as the 71? If so check the pivot pin on the clutch arm. They fail. Happened to me. Clutch pedal dropped to the floor.

Pivot pin is a good candidate. Also if the clevis is the original plastic type it may have failed, also common. Cable will still look connected but “ears” on plastic piece may have sheared off.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. Here are some photos.

Everything looks ok to me at both ends of the cable, clevis and all, to me. I might pull the cable out this afternoon to see if its splintered somewhere.

The clevis on the transmission side is odd to me. Anyone see that before?

Chris

looks all ok..the picture of the clutch pedal is when you compressed it ,right..

That clevis at the clutch arm looks homemade -get the correct part, also replace the clutch cable looks pretty tired....still it is possible that the TO bearing left the press.plate.

Yes the picture of the clutch pedal is depressed. But I'm not pressing on it. It's resting pretty much at the stop.
