Porsche Crest Blaupunkt Porsche CR Radio USA Model Question

The CR radio comes with two additional boxes in addition to the headunit itself. For those of you with experience with this head unit, can you tell me exactly what both are for? Please see picture below:

The additional black box (memory station) tunes and locks additional stations. If you rotate the secondary knob on the right, it will change the tuning inputs from either the radio buttons, tuning knob, on the radio and or stations locked on the box memory box.

To change the tuning of a station on the memory box, you pull the little button on the memory box and rotate the button. If working correctly (and if in the correct mode) the stations will change. Once tuned in, push the button back i and that station is locked.

Just a side note on these units, you may be able to lock in about 3 stations both in FM and AM from the various modes and thats about it. As advanced as these were, they are still pretty crude by todays standards.

Memory button pulled

The larger "Empfangsteil" box is the antenna box. It mounted on the floorboard on the passenger side. The antenna plugs into this box. The antenna wire in this picture is the black wire on the left side. (Never mind the poorly twisted speaker wire as i was just testing the unit for left and right sides wires)

Stevie - Amazingly helpful, thank you.

Can the headunit be ran without these two boxes? I assume radio reception would be poor since one box is the antennae unit.

Also, is there a mounting kit for the memory box? If not, how did you install it? Thank you.
