Missing Chain Case stud and Cylinder check
So I noticed the rebuilt engine I have acquired is missing a chain case stud. Will this be an issue if the hole is stripped? Do I need to put this stud in to prevent oil from leaking?
Also, these cylinders have a marking on them 01 A 10. Can anyone determine what type of cyl these are Nikasil/Alusil http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5...50ed63d1_c.jpg http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5...05aa5287_c.jpg |
For sure replace the missing stud. If the case threads are damaged (screw a short bolt and washer in and torque to spec. If you can get the torque, the threads are most likely good enough)you can use a Helicoil or other insert. Following directions drill the hole to spec, tap, and screw the insert in. Add the stud and good to go. Inserts develop full strength in this application.

By counting the fins on the cylinders, 11, they look to be Mahles.

If it’s a 2.7. Mahle can also be alucil, Mahle went both ways.

Bruce - This is a 2.7 and you are right it could be either.
I will try to thread a stud in there. |
