Help identifying this?
 

1986 Cab 911 in the engine compartment driver's side. Forward of fan shroud there are 3 vertical plugs with outboard attachments on a metal riser. The uppermost plug has a broken locking clip and when it comes loose the car floods with gas and stalls out. See pix for forward looking side view and direct overhead view. All assistance appreciated!!

Cylinder head temperature sensor.

OK... but when it is disconnected car floods with gas and dies... ideas? Not normal behavior for a temp sensor...

all of those connectors are missing a thin wire rectangle clip that goes around +270 deg of the connector

cyl head temp sensor, speed and reference sensors, maybe they are out of order in the bracket

Sure it is. That sensor is what tells the ecu that it no longer needs to run a super rich mixture in order to stay running because the engine is heated up enough to properly assist the fuel to atomize. Unplug it and the ecu is programed to run a rich mixture.

A genuine aha moment of clarity! Thanks to all, kudos to Pompadori for his explanation that even I could understand! I will also cj=heck the order of the sensors and get a proper clip. The integral plastic clip in the female housing succumbed to a little heavy pressure when we changed out the deck lid shock - drivers side!

Anyone know where to source the female side of the clip? Our hosts do not have it. It would be great to get a matching side. Some cars have a single wire sensor - no ground. Some have a two wire sensor - one ground. Mine has a single wire sensor, but a two pin female mini spade connector, that is the damaged part. Ideas?? Besides a quick fix/cable tie??
