Strut Inserts Bilstein 911SC
 
I’m installing new Bilstein inserts into my 83 911SC Cab. See the attached pic. They came packaged with a square rubber o-ring on top of the dust cover. I assume this is for packing only, to keep the dust cover in place? Can anyone verify? Or does this stay in place and act as a cushion between the strut shaft/dust cover and the strut mount?
