1983 SC Factory Alarm Key
Does anyone know where I might source a key for the factory alarm? Thanks
|
For my 1984 944 it was a VW key blank I got from a locksmith.

Yes, a standard VW X9 key blank will fit. here's my thread on creating an alarm key for my 84.

I’m afraid fabricating my own far exceeds my skill set but a very impressive process nonetheless. I do have a spare lock without the key so maybe I’ll give it a try. I was hoping there might be a way to cut a key based on the vin number.

Do you currently have a working key? If not a good locksmith can make one without opening the lock unit. You probably should remove the lock from the car though.

If you want to send me your spare I could duplicate the process I did on mine and send it back with a set of keys. You cover postage and the cost of the key blanks. I was originally going to try to pattern a key without disassembly, as sticky as the tumblers were it would never have worked. Based on the condition of the inside of my lock cylinder it needed to come apart anyway to get cleaned out, though I'm guessing the inside of mine was worse than most.

A kind and generous offer. I’ll PM you.
