I posted some of this info a while back.
The University of Central Florida (UCF) has a graduate program specifically geared towards the design of race engines. It is a masters program in engineering and requires an engineering undergrad. Only 8 people a year are accepted and that time is coming up. I can highly recommend the program for anybody wanting to get into the industry. Most students work for local machine shops, repair shops, and/or race teams while attending the school. It’s a perfect way to get specialized education and awesome experience. Some recent grads ended up in CART and others at GM helping design the C5R Vette engine. It’s hard work and not a lot of coin initially, but for those of you who are willing to put in the blood and sweat, the rewards will come. Hopefully! Please post or email any questions. More info can be found at http://www.graduate.ucf.edu/currentGradCatalog/content/Degrees/3_IndustEn_EN.cfm#High%20Performance%20Internal%20 Combustion%20Engine%20Optimization%20Focus BK |

It's times like these that I wish I'd finished college.

BK: What's you affiliation? Dean? Can I get in if I can find someone to pay my mortgage while I'm back at School?
UCF was nice when I took graduations pictures there (college job). Sounds like a good program. |

No, I am not the dean. I am a lowly part time student. You'll probably have to sell your house like I did to move down here. But I can honestly say that this was the best move I've ever made. Back home I couldn't get a part-time job changing oil on street cars, but here I'm already working several series including the ALMS. Obviously results may vary, but the opportunities do exist.

The undergrad requirements are a little flexible. An undergrad in engineering is required, but not mechanical. Some students have a manufacturing, civil and even structural under grads.

Interesting, was just curious. I have a mixed background. Was an ME student at VA-tech, worked with their Hybrid Electric Vehicle Team while I was there, moved back home and am currently finishing up my engineering degree in EE at a local Univ. Really enjoyed ME more than the EE, and would like to peruse it again in grad school....at some point. Interesting to see what's available in the ME field w/o specifically having an ME undergrad.
Thanks BK...

The UCF program is sounds great.
Clemson University also offers a MSME in racing / automotive stuff. I had a room mate who in that program. Looking back, the MSME sounds like more fun than a MSEE.

Yea, Clemson offers a masters in vehicle dynamics, or chassis design, or something like that. From what I hear, it is an excellent program as well. But of course not as good as UCF's!!
