Seeking Sunroof Delete Panel
Fellow Pelicanites...Does anyone know of a good US source for a sunroof delete panel? Pelican resold a Rennline part, but it has been discontinued. As always, thank you for your advice/input.
A review of the forums suggest Fenn Lane Motorsports sold a quality sunroof delete panel made on an English wheel...I located their website, but it say closed due to bereavement. There’s another company out of the UK that sells a stamped version, but it seems pricey for a part that is not handmade. https://www.stuttgart-classica.co.uk/new-parts/steel-sunroof-delete?rq=Sunroof%20delete Anyone purchase parts from Stuttgart Classica? Even better this actual part? What was the quality and experience? Trent

$300 to $400 is the norm, not as easy to make as one might think.

Agreed ^ This Stuttgart panel looks identical to the Fennlane panel, which is what I used. The panel is a good starting point, but the finish work before paint (ie hammer and dolly and the welding) is where the skill is. Welding it in with minimal warping, taking time to finish the surface is important. The $327 plus shipping is a drop in the bucket on the entire job.
Consider: Glass out (new seals? 1k +) $$ Sunroof bows (good used ones $$) new headliner, misc glues and sound deadening. Just the fill is probably a 2k job. Not including paint and body.

75 911s is right...It is not a cheap endeavor once all the other elements come into play...given all the extra costs, and at the suggestion of the bodyshop, I elected to go with a metal roof skin. It leaves the roof structure in place. The bodyshop said the labor, prep and paint would be about the same as the plug, but that the plug would be more likely to show at some point in the future.

The Stuttgart classic one was made by Fenn Lane. They are handmade on an English wheel.I doubt youll see anymore from Fenn lane.Chris who was Fenn lane has passed away.If you need one Id suggest you buy now. That is if they actually have any left.
If you want to do as im gonna do go to Ebay.My mate Neville (F1 motorsport) has a carbon roof for sale.He did last week.Ive got one.Made by a guy who makes carbon parts for F1 teams. Last edited by coomo; 08-16-2020 at 09:50 AM.. |
