Option M197 Stronger Battery
Does anyone have information regarding the differences in the rating of the standard battery and the stronger battery?

Okay, let us try a different tack. I suspect at least a few of you have batteries in your car. So if it is a 911 from say 1975 through 1985, what is the type & rating of your battery? 912E qualifies too.

The standard rating was 66A. They don't show the optional battery's rating

Thanks Bob, that really helps. I just found this reference in a German certificate (much more informative) on the larger battery which turns out to be 88 (Amp-Hour) capacity rating.

When I by batteries for my '83 911, there are 2 sizes suggested.
I buy the smaller one because it is lighter and fits in the battery box better. Hope that helps. It's interesting but don't know why there would be an option for this at the dealer. Maybe colder climates benefit from larger battery. Cold temperatures reduce battery power. |

Yep. If you look at G body battery mounts, there are 2 positions for the clamp which corresponds with the large a small batteries. My information came from the sales brochure from 1974.
