sun visor fitment

Does anyone have experience with the current batch of available sun visors?

a few years back (3-4) I bought several batches from several vendors for installation in my '72 and '83 911 coupes. The 72 has a black headliner, the '83 has ivory.

The units I was able to buy at the time all had horrible fitment. I ended up returning some, they were so bad. The trouble was, when I'd line them up with the pivot-pin/hinge, they would be too short to engage the holder near the rear view mirror, they were too short by 1/2 inch or more. If I slid it over to engage the holder at the rear view mirror, they would pull out of the hinge/pivot pin.

So, are the new ones better?

the ones I tried previously were from a competitor, web site Sierra something or other....it was years ago that I bought them.

So, I went ahead and bought the Dansk one from our host.

It, too, is short, by 1/2" or more.

I was able to move the visor away from the pivot without it falling off the pivot, but it is right on the edge of hanging on. The trouble is, I live on the east coast, and Blucille is in SoCal. We are spending the next 10 days covering 1500 miles or more, so it'll be a good test to see if this visor will stay attached to the pivot.

I'm interested in following this. My '84 3.2's passenger side visor is 'floppy'. Driver side is fine. My car is funny...all the wear and tear on the interior is on the PASSENGER side vs the driver's side...which is fine. Never seen that.

Just got my Bentley service manual and looking into replacing that visor. It doesn't really look straight forward. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Visor replacement is very straightforward if you have the correct visor. Our host and several others sell them and it's only a couple of screws. Question becomes Porsche or aftermarket and amount you are willing to spend. I went with aftermarket and they are fine after a little bit of shaping.
You may be able to find one at a used parts outlet but I would be cautious about this.

Sun Visors -

Just a comment - If you need to replace your old deteriorated sun visors and not too concerned with OEM parts there are several German after market sellers on Ebay. I've ordered 4 sets (Black) for both the 911 Coupe and Targa which were not only made from a high quality material but were also a perfect fit and finish.

Although they all were about the same price, when each pair arrived, I found that actually the best ones were from Latvia ? Pelican should order a bunch of these things so they are on hand. Shipping took forever.

Good Luck - Michael

I got a set from another vendor and they're garbage. Too short - sounds like the same brand you got from SMC. I put gaffers tape on the pivot points to keep them up but on a hot day, full droop.

I'm also looking for visor replacement that are original fit and finish. Those shown don't look too bad. I was wondering if there is any adjustment if you loosen the black screw at the attachment point?

Classic Porsche sells a pair for $900...sigh.

There are a few threads on here about restoring your own and with nothing to lose I may give it a try.

I took a minute today to look more closely at my 'loose' passenger visor. Turns out, it was installed wrong. About 5 minutes of taking it out/apart and re-installing...and it's perfect. Who knew.

reusing a thread in order not to create a new one.

couple of years back, when reupholstering the ceiling, sun visors got lost, and drove the car without them. now, they have reappeared, so I bought some new screws for the side mounting and have located all the holes for the to go in.

however, after locating hole for the clips (besides the rear view mirror) to attach into, I cannot find any thread for the bolt to go in. the bolt is an M4 size, but even bigger bolts were. how it's supposed to be mounted there? possibly a speed nut?
