On the rear brake are there two #29 (Shoe Spreaders?) per side? |
Just one. ( mid-year ) The e-brake cable goes thru it.
Does that diagram look like your early car ? Oops, George is right. No coffee yet. The back one is a ***** to get get seated on the little pegs. Good Luck |
On my '76 Carrera there are 2 per side, one easy to see and reach, and the other behind the first, in mirror image, a real beetch to put right, without it popping out.

Yes the diagram is pretty close, the problem I am having is that the body shop I used dis-assembled the car and I picked it up in boxes so I have not point of reference other than these diagrams and my POS Haynes manual. What makes me wonder if there is two per side is that the brake shoes have a post on both sides and I have found an extra part #29 in one of 21 boxes of parts.

There should be two #29, with a spring between them per side. Four total per car. Then cable runs through the lot. George is wrong about them being a beetch to do. The are a MFSOB to do right.
Fig 8.7 in the POS shows the one half. THe other half you cannot see, is a mirror image. Just make sure the inside ends are on the shoe. If you need better pics, i can scan some of an older factory parts list. |
Crap, I was afraid of that, and here I was thinking I was finished with my rear brakes. It was a royal PITA with just one of those dam spreaders, I can only imagine the joy with two. Anyone got two for sale for a '68?
|
I'm drinking my coffee....LOL.
Is the 68 different than the mid year one ? The mid year one is still available. |
