RS door panel install

I just ordered a RS door panel kit for my 1976 911s and was wondering what is the best tool to use when cutting the hole for the window crank and door handle.

Terry:

Just get a sharp utility knife.

If you need to make any custom holes in the fiberboard, though, I recommend a dremel tool (much cleaner and easier). When you do this, hold teh leather away and cut your hole in the fiberboard, and then cut the leather second.

They're really nice tho!

I saw a show on cable where the guy used a regular hole saw, but ran it backwards so it would not tear the material. Worked well.

Terry all the holes you need should be precut in the inner panel (they are on the ones I sell), go ahead a put the door panel retainers on the panels and have a friend hold it up abainst the door(without snapping it all the way down, then take a razor blade and cut a small X where the window crank shaft pushes against the vinyl. Write me if you get into trouble, we have sold and installed hundreds of these.

If you need additional small holes we use a hollow punch set. They can be purchased at a hardware store or from Harbor Freght. Position the punch and just whack it with a hammer. This is the cleanest way to do it. If you are unable to locate an inexpensive punch set drop me a note.

If you want to change the color of the pull strap, go to a store that sells mountain climbing rope and such. Many colors to choose to match color of car or interior.

If you are making your own pull straps, you need to purchase some grommets and a grommet setting tool. We use stainless steel self piercing grommets and an expensive grommet setting press to do this. Might be easier just to have us make up a set for you or if you need a special color (other than Red, Blue, Yellow, Tan, Black or Silver, send us the webbing and we can grommet it for you.
