Starting Question

When I go to start my car, sometimes the car turns over and sometimes there is nothing. When there is nothing, I usually try a couple of time and somehow it suddenly decides it wants to start. Does it sound like a loose connection on the starter? I recently pulled the starter off and reconnected. All the other connections had been left alone.

Thanks.

Little more detail..... do you hear the starter click... Are the lights on the dash coming on when you attempt to start ?

Whe I turn the key 1/2 way I get the buzzing noise and the red light on the dash turns on. When I turn the key further to wear the starter should engage nothing. No click or anything. I have a new solenoid on there so I am thinking I did not tighten the wires enough. I did not mess with any other wires that should affect the starter. The car is a 77 911.

Thanks.

Sounds like you should start with the connections to the starter. Then check the battery and ground connections. If all of those are good, you probably have a bad ignition switch.

As mentioned I would recheck the connections since that was last touched.... as you slowly turn the key to start if the lights on the dash go out you most likely have a problem with the ignition switch

Send a message via ICQ to old_skul
Later models, such as the 964 and 993, have a lockout feature where the key has to be in the ignition, and one has to press the door lock button on the key fob to "disable" the alarm. Then, one turns the key back to the lock postion, and can then start the car normally.

It's like security through obscurity.
