Some a-hole stole my floor jack...

Prepping to do the brakes on the 930, I left for maybe 10 minutes, quick run to In-N-Out to grab a burger and bring it back (very important never to wrench on an empty stomach). Upon my return, the 3 1/2 ton floor jack that I left not-out-of-sight-enough UNDER the rear of my other car was freakin' gone.

I live on my boat, where they (the marina folks) constantly give me crap for working on my car in the parking lot as it doesn't look all 'yachtie' and 'proper' (for some jet-set that I've never seen here I suppose) but to top it all off, someone walks with my freakin' jack. They didn't even get the handle to use the damn thing! (I had that with my tools in the trunk.) How ironic that here where it's SOOOO upscale a guy can't wrench every now and then, people are grabbing other peoples goods and walking.

A person can be nice, but people suck. I STILL haven't learned not to trust humanity.

Just needed to vent
(so feel free to move me OT)

Nothing worse than getting "Jacked". Maybe it's a plot to get you to buy one of those new jacks at Pelican! Hey could be worse, could have been your whole car. Your jack can always fail on whomever borrowed it and it would be "bad karma" for that person.

Mmmmmm.....In-N-Out!

(Sorry to hear about the jack. My wife and I lived aboard for 3 years. I liked it a lot, except I had to rent a workspace for my "projects".)

Maybe they didn't need the handle. Given the issues you describe maybe someone just rolled it into the water. Hope things improve for you. Jim

Well, now you have an extra cheater bar!. This is a good excuse to buy the light weight alum jack from Harbor Freight. Won't rust (I noticed a little rust on some of the plated bolts on mine after getting it wet) and it won't sink your boat when you stow it aboard. HF jacks are on sale right now for $169.

That's what I think happened too.

I just saw your jack that got jack- jacked on channel 11 , its being chased down 101 south by 7 CHP cars.
All kidding aside its a shame we can't leave our stuff out and not have to lock everything down. maybe instead of roadside rest stations we should have roadside fireing squad stations . Check with insurance co for possible coverage.

The only thing you can do is report it, even if there is a certain person who has been doing all the bad-mouthing, been watching you intently, and is sitting next to your car when you come back. You know it I know it, but the law depends on "facts".

Get another jack, play some loud music to piss them off, act sloppy and take off again.
They will take the new one, but you will have them on camera.

I would get a mask and fins and look within 10 feet of the dock to see if you could find the jack. If you do find the jack, do not touch it but call the police, report that its been found and see if they can find some fingerprints on it.

If you could identify the perp who stole it by fingerprints it would stop a lot of the problems at the marina.

Well, I don't know about Ventura, but here in L.A. you would definitely not have the police getting involved w/ underwater floor jacks. It would be cheaper for them to buy you 10 new jacks than to send a police diver into the bay to retrieve evidence of an unsolvable misdemeanor.

Personally, I would find somewhere to work on your car where it doesn't piss anyone off, and defintely don't leave tools or equipment outside unattended. They tend to grow legs and walk away under those circumstances.

Yeah, the jack is, as they say, history. It probably isn't underwater, although the parking lot is fairly accesible, the actual docks and water are behind a fence.

One of the maint. guys when asked if he had seen anything said 'yep, maybe someone needed to jack their car up to fix it'. Thanks for that!

Anyway, I'm over it. Thanks for letting me blow off some steam and for a couple of chuckles too

As other's stated, the first thing that came to my mind was some idiot picking it up and tossing over the edge. Do you have a nearby buddy with some extra room to wrench? Maybe a trade of boat/fishing time for some storage and wrench time.
