mirror fit

I have some new mirrors that just dont seem to sit tight..feeling around the holes I can feel the reinforcement plate but the drivers side doesnt feel correct (it seems not to be flat with the door skin. I see PP offers the part (911 531 197 00) but for my life have no idea how i would get the old one out and new one in...does anyone have experience with these and can offer some guidance?

Unfortunately...big mitts but if i can reach behind CIS and change the OP switch, this should be doable as well
