SHOW US your Long Hood Audio (hidden or not)
I've been puttering on my 71 T now for a long time and I'm just about to the point that it'll be a dry weather DD.
Until now the motor has been my car audio, with an 80's vintage Sony and sorry speakers. I've never had a decent sound system in either of my vintage cars, so it's time. I've wanted to do something for some time, but just never pulled the trigger. Some of my ideas 1. Blue tooth with speaker for hands free calls (not music) 2. Phone connection to amp via Aux cable for streaming and podcasts. 3. Speakers and placement? 4. Permanent on board losses music library accessed with the phone. 5. To head unit or not, is there actually a solid vintage-ish looking unit that sounds good? I've read a bit about lack of audio quality in the retro-sound units What have you done (recently) to your early 911 to get good (or awesome) rich sound? Do you have photos you wouldn't mind posting? Please include pics of speakers, subs, amps, heads, etc and any you might have of your installs. Thanks, Guy Whose getting his duck tail in a row

guy-- few thoughts and observations from my '86 targa
1) why not use your phone as your music source via bluetooth and secure it using a rennline mount? I'm a huge proponent of lossless music but with a bluetooth receiver that supports the AAC standard (which will send up to 256mb/s aac-encoded files losslessly through bluetooth), I doubt even the most golden eared listener could a/b lossless vs a 256mb/s mp4 in the noisy 911 environment ![]() 2) then you could either go with a bluetooth-enabled power amp or a bluetooth adaptor plugged into a power amp -- and simplify your setup significantly 3) assuming you insist on a permanent on board lossless music library accessed via the phone, what specific technology would you look to for this? almost sounds like you'd need to build out a micro-pc and use the phone as a remote access device -- again, seems VERY cumbersome to administer 4) as you may have divined, I'm a no-head advocate, especially if you're looking for a 71-appropriate head unit -- either put in a vintage (but inoperative) radio or a blocking plate? 5) speakers -- I'm actually happy with the sound I'm getting from my door speakers after adding a set that have separate tweeters located higher up on the doors -- these provide some imaging and my 6.5" drivers provide at least acceptable bass -- still need to improve speaker mounting methodology -- they're still screwed into door cards and not directly affixed to metal inner door panel and I want to dynamt the interior door cavities to make them less "active." May eventually add a small self-powered underseat sub, but still not sold on need . . . Thought I'd bump your post and throw a few thoughts out there |

Interesting take on the Bluetooth. I just figured I could stream tidal or qobuz through the aux cord, I like BT for hands free, radio shows and podcasts, but I guess I haven't kept up with the tech so there ya go.
I like the idea of an on board library but I'm not a slave to it, not a problem to use the ipod for playlists a d such. I guess I just figured there was some sort of hard drive set up by now. Any pics?

No complaints from me on retro sound. Great features at a good price. Bluetooth, 2x USB, iPhone/iPod, Sirius/XM, etc. Good power per channel out of the box with built in ability to easily add an amp and/or sub. Only as good as the speakers it is hooked up to of course so YMMV.
