G50 Shifter Kit - What is the small o-ring for?

Hello,
I replaced the ball socket bushing on my G50 shifter ('88 Carrera) 500 miles ago, and I should have replaced the shift rod bushing at the same time because now it has disintegrated. Oh well.
Anyway, I ordered a new bushing along with the 2 o-rings shown in the kit. I don't understand where the small o-ring goes, though. The exploded view seems to indicate that it fits underneath the head of the pin at the bottom of the shifter. But I don't see an existing one there on my shifter (which is out of the car now).
Anyone, BTDT that can help me out?

Thanks,
Bill

Just in case someone comes across this in a search... Mystery solved. There's a recess in the material (plastic?) through which the pin extends. The o-ring sits in this recess.
It is on the side where the head of the pin resides which was on the left for me. I don't know if it matters which direction the pin is installed. I'm planning on installing it the same way I found it. :-)
