The SC ac vent update to Carrera vents (so far)

Well started the project yesterday, it's a lot of work and yet rewarding. Finished one side, as I have to leave for business Monday and won't be able to start the driver’s side (which is way more involved) until next week.

It’s wise to gather all the parts needed for this project as it helps out to pencil the marks for the cuts and fitting. I also had to get a Dremel tool, which made the cutting easier since this tool is very small compared to other tools.

Marker made easier by having the vinyl dash piece ....

Lots of cutting, hammering and going through 5 Dremel cutting pieces

Better view of the cuts

Vents installed and not yet glued in or fixed

Comparison of SC vents and Carrera vents clearly shows air flow will be increased.

The cab is going to be my street driver so yes I think the work done so far is worth it....

My hat's off to ya'!! WOW! I am SO impressed. So what parts did you have to purchase? Where did you find them?

Again, very, very nice work so far! Any chance you wanna' fly to SC and cut on my Porsche? Never thought I'd ask someone if they would do that!

Safe travels! I have to do the same thing next Sunday...

Later,
Mike

Thanks guys its a very involved process so before you start make sure you want to follow through...

Parts needed:
86-89 dash
86-89 driver and passenger vinyl trim pieces, I received the heater and stereo piece also, don't need it but its good..
86-89 driver and passenger knee pads, ash tray(keep your old ash tray as you will use it , vents, and end caps..

I am glad I had to stop today, the drivers side will be a lot more involved due to the placement of the hood release knob, also with the sparks flying from cutting the metal, the gas tank is near the drivers side

Frank,

Did you ever get around to completing the driver's side A/C vent mods? I'd love to hear more about it.

Thanks,

Hugh

Did not start on the driver side, as it is a more involved process. I have the front trunk release knob to deal with...

This should be finished before summer comes...

The dash is already an improvement when you switch over to the 86 and up style

Carefully grind the weld that hold the trunk release tube to the body and move it down a bit, that'll give the clearance that you need.

How are you going to finish the side of the dash, that is normally covered by the older style knee pad?

Frank,

Thanks for the update. I have the '88 dash in place and have acquired the knee pads and side vents, but still need a few more trim pieces. I'd like to hear more about the trunk release issue when you get in there.

Thanks,

Hugh

with a lot of patience When you get the full trim package its a retrofit but needs some fitting...It may not be perfect but it will be close

I've seen several asking the question about the mod, but I didn't even know this short post existed.
