Why would this hose be blocked?

While cleaning the engine bay & adjusting the valves this weekend, I found this jammed in one of the oil breather hoses. Why? What could be a reason for plugging it? (I just picked this car up recently) TIA. -John

This hose goes to the bottom of the MFI air cleaner. The hose appeared to be in pretty good shape.

Doesn't that hose go to the charcoal canister for the evaporative emissions system?

That is the crankcase/oil tank vent outlet. If it's plugged, crankcase pressure cannot be vented to the intake tract via the air filter housing. In some cases, this could cause external oil leaks. Put it in your tool box drawer labeled "misc".

The PO probably plugged the line to prevent oil vapor from entering the air filter housing.

Do I ever have oil leaks. There is oil exiting from almost every oriface on this car.
Here I am replacing every gasket I can to stop the leaks, when all I had to do was remove this plug that the PO stuck in there.
j/k

I guess I have a way of understating things.

I hope this cures the symptoms.
