To tint or not to tint?
 

I am thinking of tinting the windows in my P-car, but I do like the stock look. I do not want to do it and regret it. Does anyone have pic's of a guards red tinted and please let me know the % of tint and anyone regret tinting? Thanks in advance.

When I bought mine, the first thing I did was strip the tint. It was quite a job. Don't think I will ever put it back. Looks so much cleaner without it.

When I picked up my car it was full of bubbled tint that looked terrible. I had it all removed since it was difficult to see out of the rear window. It was a very difficult job to get it off the back window.

Mine had faded tint when I got it. Looked so bad it had to come off. It was real hard to get it off the back window. That glue is a mess and the various cleaners and solvents I used had varying effect. None were great.

Mine had none and with the Georgia summer heat and typical Carrera AC, I had it done. Nice professional job. Looks and works great. No regrets.

if you drive daily in a hot climate, you will definately need the tinting, at least the back window

50 percent is going to be a pretty light shade unless you have a dark interior, 35 percent is too dark in my opinion but i think it'd look killer with the guards red........

the easiest way to remove tint is to use a steamer....steam it up and the tint literally will fall off and the glue wipes cleanly off.

I had the back window and 2 rear quarter windows tinted 4 years ago and they still look great. It keeps the p-car cooler in the summer, I think the car looks better and I don't have to clean the rear window as often. I am glad I did it.

IMHO only....

Unless one lives / drives in a consistantly "hot" climate where the greenhouse effect is just too much to bear and contributes directly to making your 911 driving experience less enjoyable than you think it ought to be....I personally would skip the tint thang..... strictly a "taste" sort of thing.

But then again I can't recall seeing very many 911's with tint in europe.....

Just a side note...but down here in so. cal. I wouldn't want the added attention of tint giving possible cause for suspicion from officer friendlies wondering what I have to hide..wondering if I'm some sort of "pimp-daddy" in a 911.

I live in a hot climate, but personally I don't like it too dark.

I have tint on my black 88, but I also live in Arizona where tint is almost as neccessary as air conditioning.

With my pale Irish skin and So. Cal. sun, I personally cannot live w/o tint on my cars. It really makes a difference w/ interior temps and also sun damage to upholstery, plus makes it difficult for prying eyes to see inside, (especially at night). It has to be the highest quality tint available, professionally installed, to be acceptable. 35% tint, (what I have), looks a lot darker w/ a black or dark interior, on my SC w/ tan interior it does not look as dark.

It is also the opposite of the convertible mentality for me, might have to do w/ living in a really large city, but I like a certain feeling of privacy in a car, sort of the "cocoon" effect. Lastly, and this has been covered in other threads, old tint is easy to remove if you know what you are doing. Soapy H2O is the trick, NOT solvents for chrissakes, Ivory liquid is the weapon of choice w/ professionals. Here is my car:

I would not get tint on anything under 1990. In my opinion, I have not seen a 911 that look's good with tint, only the new one's, but thats another story. Some older ones look ok, but everytime I look at ones tinted its like something is missing or something's not matching.

Denis: didja' get your engine back together? And damn, that's some nice architecture in the middle background. Is that mid-Wilshire area? Who's the pup, btw?

David, Motor project has been on haitus, unfortunately, but might be put together this week or next. Fingers crossed. ;)

Photo was snapped in front of my building, in Koreatown, (near the Wiltern), that building across the street is pretty but architecture is better on mine, (Deco 1929), it's a great street. Tyson lives 1 block down same street. Doggy is Romeo, 3 y.o. long-haired G.S., he doesn't like the 911, prefers *****box cars w/ more room. :D

Where's the motor? Is it at your house? If I'm free this weekend and you need any help, let me know. I'm starting to like getting down and dirty. :)
