Classic retrofit panel swap = no start = help

Hello everyone,

1989 3.2 911. Stock.

I swapped over my fuse panel using the classic retrofit product that I bought here at Pelican and now it only cranks, but won’t start. As a test, I jumped the fuel pump and heard it run. I tried starting it when the pump was running, but it wouldn’t start just cranks away. BTW, the fuel pump is getting a little over 4 volts with the key on.

Everything electrical seems to work fine, lights, radio, sunroof, mirrors, wipers, windows, blower, etc.

Also swapped fuel relay under the seat to check that, but no luck.

No blown fuses in front panel or rear.

Any thoughts on what to do?

Thanks for reading the post.

Does the car have an alarm system? Did you find any ‘mystery’ wires on installation?

It has a stock alarm system and there were no mystery wires as far as I could tell.

If it has an alarm system how does that impact things?

Thanks

At a glance your headlight wiring is incorrect so I would refer back to your pre install photos.

The white headlamp feed should be in the top of ‘1’ and the yellow in the top of ‘3’. That means whatever is in 1 and 2 right now is wrong.

Regarding your question, if your alarm isn’t wired correctly, your car won’t start...

I got it started. I used a picture from a magazine article to change some of the wires. The guy had the same car. The only thing not working are the low beams. When I move the wires to the location as suggested above I get no headlights at all. If I keep them as they are in my picture above, I at least get the hi-beams. My two cents for those doing this in the future:

1) Create a wiring diagram on paper for the position of each wire. (I'm doing one after the fact so I have a record)
2) Take each wire off once at a time and label it.
3) Take pics of of the wires...especially the bottom row!
4) Oversizing the holes with a drill bit makes it easier to get the multi-wire leads into the fuse block.
5) Using needle nose pliers to place the wires in their holes made for faster results than using my hands especially on the bottom row.

Thanks for all who contributed to this thread.
