stuck CSI sensor plate and lever
 

Having trouble finding answers on this forum. I'm trying to fix this problem. Do I need to remove the fuel mixture unit before I take out the sensor plate? I have a 1976 911S.

The FD is the issue, not the sensor plate.

The airflow sensor plate moves the control plunger inside the fuel distributor (FD). The machining tolerance for the plunger in the FD is somewhere around .0005" so any contamination or corrosion will not allow smooth operation of the plunger. That is why fuel containing ethanol can cause an FD rebuild if you let it sit. Ethanol is basically alcohol and alcohol attracts water and water causes corrosion on finely machined components. If you use that type of fuel and let your car sit too long, well you get the picture. Also any varnish from sitting too long has the same effect. For winter storage I use the commonly available fuel additive. Good luck with your FD tear down, FYI there are some orings in there that might be perished or hardened. I sent my FD in for rebuild when my control plunger would not move smoothly inside the FD. Even a slight resistance in the plunger movement will affect fuel mixture.
